Radar signal detection in multipath propagation

There have been determined statistics of a radar signal reflected by a small-size object observed on the statistically rough two-environment interface under conditions of adaptive noise. There has been carried out signal variation coefficient analysis in interference maxima and minima of the field. It has been demonstrated that the reflected signal variation coefficient in multipathing is, as a rule, greater than unity and weakly depends upon variation coefficient of a target-reflected signal in free space. To estimate the degree of multiplicative interference influence on detection efficiency there has been synthesized a decision rule for an object-reflected radar signal; detection characteristics have been found and comparison with characteristics of an object-reflected signal in free space has been carried out. It has been shown that the most significant fall of detection probability occurs when a target is being observed in interference minimum and its variation coefficient in free space is greater than unity.
