Influence of the dissolved molecular hydrogen on the luminescent properties of active silica optical fibers

Luminescence decay time reduction caused by penetration of hydrogen in optical fibers activated by Er, Yb, Nd, Bi is observed. Phenomenon is explained by deactivation of activators’ excited states via collisions with dissolved hydrogen molecules.
