In this article, the results of research of the mechanism for filling the internal cavities of open carbon nanotubes (CNT) with liquid metal were presented. The attractiveness of CNTs for modern materials science has been demonstrated. Analysis of the results of studies on the CNTs intercalation, carried out in various scientific centers, was performed. The issue of CNTs intercalation with metal was considered. Ways of opening CNTs were presented. The mechanism of CNT intercalation during electrocontact sintering of powder composites with metal matrix was described. The condition for the intercalation of the liquid phase of the metal into the internal cavity of a CNT during the electrocontact sintering of the powder system was presented. CNT intercalation technology was introduced. The calculation of the necessary parameters of technological impact was performed. The patterns of the capillary method of filling CNTs with molten metal were studied.
